Penetration testing for ISO 27001

ISO 27001 does not mandate penetration testing by name, but it expects you to identify and manage technical vulnerabilities and to test security in development and acceptance. A penetration test is the most common way to show an auditor that those controls work. HYDN tests the systems in your ISMS scope and reports in a form auditors can use.

How a pen test fits ISO 27001

ISO 27001:2022 asks you to manage information security risk and to show your controls are effective. Two Annex A controls relate directly to testing:

  • 8.8 Management of technical vulnerabilities. Obtain information about vulnerabilities, evaluate your exposure and act on it.
  • 8.29 Security testing in development and acceptance. Define and carry out security testing before systems go live.

A penetration test produces independent evidence for both, and its findings feed your risk treatment plan.

What HYDN delivers

  • Testing scoped against your ISMS scope and risk register.
  • Findings rated by severity with clear remediation guidance.
  • A free remediation check to confirm fixes.
  • A final report suitable for your certification auditor.
Questions

Frequently asked questions

Which ISO 27001 controls does a pen test support?

Mainly Annex A 8.8, management of technical vulnerabilities, and 8.29, security testing in development and acceptance. It also feeds your risk assessment and treatment plan.

Does the test need to cover everything in our ISMS scope?

It should cover the systems that matter most to the risks you have identified. We scope the test against your risk register so the evidence lines up with your ISMS.
